Camp Invention Wraps Up with Showcase

More than 115 campers participated in Camp Invention, a science camp held at Spring Hill Elementary School, in mid June. The participants honed their science knowledge as well as put their creativity to the test by inventing a solution to a problem. This was the third year that Camp Invention was held in the Spring Hill schools. Family and friends were invited to come and see the results of the busy week on the last day of camp. Pictured left is Jackson Curbow, third grader at Prairie Creek Elementary and camp participant, showing off his creation!

YMCA Offers Before and After School Care in Spring Hill Schools

Beginning in the 2009-10 school year, the YMCA of Greater Kansas City is offering its childcare program to school district families. Specifically, the YMCA School Age Program (Y-Care) gives parents options for before, after or both before and after school care for school-aged children. Program hours will be 6:30 a.m. to the start of school, and then from the end of school to 6 p.m. The two program sites will be at Spring Hill Intermediate School, which will include students who attend Spring Hill Elementary School, and also at Prairie Creek Elementary School. For more information about the program and registration, read the Y-Care flier*.

Budgeting Kicks into High Gear

As the next fiscal year approaches, the Spring Hill School District is working to reconcile its 2009-10 budget. With reductions in state funding of more than $550,000 and other losses in funding, the Board of Education and staff are examining all costs and working to ensure that students' education remains unaffected by fiscal challenges. To learn more about the budgeting process, visit the district's Guide to Budget Information.
