Negro Leagues Baseball Museum Project
Spring Hill Elementary School
Mrs. Jeffers's Third Grade 1999-2000

Main Goal:

The main goal for the third grade students at Spring Hill Elementary School for the NLBM project was to have the students understand that there were two baseball leagues and the differences between them.  Our project included a unit of study that integrated the history of the Negro Leagues with our curriculum of the study of Martin Luther King, Jr. and biographies.  We read biographies using comparing and contrasting to find the differences of the two leagues.  We read fiction to the students to give them background information, and we used library research to create baseball cards for players who could have been teammates if times had been different.
