Substitute Teacher

The Spring Hill School District employs substitute teachers when teachers and selected paraprofessionals are absent. If you enjoy working with students of all ages and want to work in a positive working and learning environment, please consider substituting in the Spring Hill School District. 

To be a substitute teacher, you need to be a licensed teacher or qualify for an emergency substitute teaching license. To obtain information on substituting in Spring Hill, please contact the Human Resources office at 913-592-7200. Additional information regarding licensure requirements for emergency substitute teaching and for teachers currently licensed in Kansas can be obtained from the Kansas State Department of Education at http://www.ksde.org.

Teacher Substitutes:  Substitutes shall be paid at the rate of $120.00 per day.  After ten (10) consecutive days of teaching for the same regular classroom teacher, a licensed substitute teacher shall be paid $140.00 per day retroactive back to the first day after 10 days.  Emergency substitute teachers will not be assigned to long-term substitute assignments.  Substitute teachers will be paid $63.00 for half-day assignments. 
Paraprofessional Substitutes:  Licensed substitute teachers will be paid $120.00 for substituting for 8.0 hr. paraprofessionals, and $88.00 for substituting for 6.5 hr. paraprofessionals.  Emergency substitute teachers will be paid $73.00 for substituting for 6.5 hr. paraprofessionals.

Substitute Employment Benefits:

  • Substitutes who work a significant number of days in the district will receive credit for a full year of teaching experience when offered a full-time teaching position.
  • When requested, the building principal will write a letter of support for the substitute's college/university placement file after 20 days of successful substituting.
  • Substitutes will receive district communications on current activities.
  • When appropriate, all substitutes will have an opportunity to participate in district in-service activities and earn individual development points (IDP's).
  • Substitutes will be invited to provide feedback about the teaching assignment.
