District Holds Long-Range Planning Meetings

The Spring Hill Board of Education scheduled a series of planning meetings designed to update the Spring Hill School District’s facility master plan based on the most recent enrollment study. This new study, along with future growth studies from the Cities of Spring Hill, Olathe, Overland Park and the unincorporated areas of Johnson and Miami Counties that make up the Spring Hill School District, will form the basis of information needed to plan ahead. More than 50 people gathered for the first meeting, which was held on Aug. 30th. The next meeting will be Sept. 14th.

“From planning to implementation for schools, it takes several years to complete so it is important that we update the master plan now,” said Dr. Bart Goering, superintendent of schools. “Smart, detailed planning is critical to the decision-making process, especially since the district is dealing with our children’s and communities’ futures.”

A mix of community members, parents, school representatives and more has been invited to help update the district's master plan, which will ensure students have the resources that they need to succeed. The committee is focusing on four key areas: 1) deferred maintenance items; 2) technology infrastructure, tools, and software; 3) classroom space needs; and 4) budget and cost implications.

Goering noted that the long-range planning process is really about what the district needs to do to ensure students have the things they need to design their own future.

Additional information about the district's planning process can be found in the I'm Interested section of the web site.

How many pizzas does it take to feed a pack of more than 400 hungry people? It takes more than 60 large pizzas! On August 26th, dads (and father figures) and their students gathered for the Watch D.O.G.S Kick Off, which included pizza for all. The event was a combined Spring Hill Elementary School and Spring Hill Intermediate School gathering, as a convenience for families with children in both schools. The kick off event gave dads an overview of the program, which promotes their involvement in the schools and gives students positive male role models. Dads also had the opportunity to order t-shirts and, most importantly, sign up for dates to come spend a day in school.

Enrollment Information

The Spring Hill School District is excited to announce that online enrollment is available for families with returning students until August 16th. This system allows parents to log in to Skyward Family Access from the convenience of their home or office, enroll student(s) and make payments toward textbook fees and meal accounts.

Not only is this a convenience but by eliminating the printing and postage required to mail the extensive enrollment packages as was done in previous years, the district sees significant cost savings. A letter about the process was mailed to each household with returning students. However, all new students must register in-person at district schools.

During the online enrollment time, parents may log on to Skyward and select the Online Enrollment option, which can be found in the left-hand menu, to get started. Families can simply follow the checklist, update any information needed on the forms and complete all nine steps. In addition, a video overview of the process can be accessed under the Skyward section of the web site. Visit Skyward now to enroll!

For families who do not have Internet access, have a new student, or would like to register in person, please contact your school's office.

In addition, parents and guardians will have the ability to pay textbook fees and add funds to students’ meal accounts through the online payment function. The $1 credit card convenience fee that is normally charged for each transaction has been waived through Aug. 16th.

If families have questions about the enrollment process or would like to sign up for Skyward, please contact or visit your student’s school.

In early June, members of the Spring Hill FFA traveled to Kansas State University to participate in a statewide competition and chalked up a second place finish. This is the fourth consecutive Agricultural Issues team to represent Spring Hill School District and Spring Hill FFA.
