Spring Hill FFA Shines at Ag Issues Competition

June 09, 2010

In early June, members of the Spring Hill FFA traveled to Kansas State University to participate in a statewide competition and chalked up a second place finish. This is the fourth consecutive Agricultural Issues team to represent Spring Hill School District and Spring Hill FFA. The FFA Chapter has represented Kansas at nationals in 2006 and 2007 by placing first at state, and has now claimed back-to-back second place state finishes in 2009 and 2010.

The Agriculture Issues contest is a statewide competition area that requires students to select an issue in agriculture and create a factual 10-15 minute presentation, develop a 10-page research portfolio, and present five highly qualified presentations to groups outside of the school.  Ag issues promotes integration of agriculture issue analysis in an educational subject matter and allows students to become knowledgeable of, and familiar with a variety of local, state, national, and international issues facing agriculture. It also provides FFA students with the opportunity to work as a team, building their leadership and communication skills through the selection of an agricultural issue and research, planning and presentation of the issue.

Members of this year’s Agricultural Issues team included: Taylor Harrison, Grace Fritz, Megan Green, Naoma Forkell, Sonya Brown and Hayley Chauvin.
