JCCC Performance Delights Students
May 11, 2010

Prairie Creek students were recently treated to a special performance that also delivered important life lessons. The Johnson County Community College (JCCC) Department of Music and Theatre came to PCES and presented Ming Lee and the Magic Tree on May 7th. The play was authored by Aurand Harris and directed by Beate Pettigrew. Students grades K-5 watched the 35-minute production in the PC gym.
The theatre group, who was making its third trip to PCES, came with the entire set, costumes, and cast. Preceding the performance, educational packets were delivered to the school for each classroom teacher. The packets included themes, proverbs, discussion questions, patterns for masks, and coloring pages. Some of the themes of Ming Lee are:
- Happiness
- Knowing yourself
- Envy
- Wealth and power cannot make you happy, only knowing who you are and accepting it can bring you true happiness.
One of the themes – happiness – was quickly achieved as the students enjoyed the magical performance. A special thanks to the entire cast and crew from JCCC who made it all possible!
