Classroom Parties: The room parent committee organizes these fun and memorable classroom parties each Halloween and Valentine's Day.
Combined SHES/SHIS PTO Meetings: Stay "in the know" by attending these monthly meetings. The agendas include principal reports, committee updates, treasurer reports and often guest speakers from the community, schools or district. The schedule is posted on the Calendar Page, after the meetings the minutes and treasurer's reports are available on the Archives Page. Childcare is provided by the SHHS Volunteer Club, with meetings lasting about an hour.
Fall Fundraiser: The bulk of our budget is earned with one fundraiser in the fall. The proceeds sponsor a long list of activities, awards and materials which benefit our school. A primary budget item is field trips. PTO covers the majority of admission, keeping the expense low for families, usually $5.00.
Hospitality: PTO organizes staff meals during conferences, and various other meals/snacks throughout the year.
Label Collection Contests: We collect Best Choice, Box Tops for Education and Campbell's labels. Classroom collection contests are held with deadlines each fall and spring, prizes are awarded to top collecting students and classrooms. This an easy opportunity for our school to earn money to support various PTO activities while promoting school spirit. Check out this Box Tops website to sign up for email promotions, coupon downloads and shop the marketplace for great shopping deals!
Library Committee: If quiet productive-fun is what you are looking for, stop by the library anytime and jump into the re-shelving!
PTO Carnival: Each spring, the SHES and SHIS PTO's host a fun-filled carnival night. Activities include a variety of inflatables, face painting, cake decorating contest, cake walk, midway games, prizes, concessions and a silent auction.
Restaurant Events: Several local restaurants host these family fun activities and donate a percentage of the sales back to PTO. Special thanks to this year's participating restarants: BB's Grill, Culvers, Gambino's, Red Robin, Sonic, and Taste of China. Many of these activities are combined with SHES PTO.
Scholastic Book Fairs: Two book fairs are held each year. The fall book fair earns Scholastic credits for the school library and classroom libraries. The 1/2 price spring book fair earns minimal credits, but provides discounted reading materials to families. Both of our book fairs are open during school, and Family Night is 5-8pm Thursday. Students are encouraged to shop during daily classroom visits to the book fair, families are invited to attend Family Night and daily Grandparent Lunches.
Skating Parties: Skate City hosts themed skating parties twice a year (fall & spring), offering a discounted admission and a small percentage back once an 80 guest minimum is met. This is a combined activity with PCES PTO. Skate City: 913-888-6668 10440 Mastin, Overland Park, KS 66212
Staff Appreciation: We love to spoil our staff at SHIS! We celebrate Principal's Day, Nurse's Day, Secretary's Day and Librarian's Day each year. New in 2011, we started recognizing staff birthdays! The Birthday Alert emails have become a big hit, if you're not in on the fun send an "add-me" email to shispto@gmail.com.
Summer Movie Program: Dickinson Theatres-Summer Vacation Movie Series ticket sales start in the spring. Eight tickets for $13, to your choice of scheduled second-run movies, with a portion going back to PTO! Don't miss this great deal.
Talent Show: New for the 2011/12 school year, this event is planned as a family fun night and as a new spot for our classroom silent auction baskets.
Teacher Appreciation Week: Celebrated nationally the first full week of May, Teacher Appreciation Week is full of daily acts-of-appreciation focused on our fantastic staff!
