**Zonta International Young Women in Public Affairs Scholarship

Criteria:  Leadership in community service, global awareness, academic excellence, and school involvement; two reference letters must accompany the application

Deadline:  applications may be obtained from Ms. Graves; deadline for student to mail application is February 1; organization’s application is used.


American Legion Scholarships

Penwell-Gabel Tradition of Caring Nursing Scholarship

Criteria: Seniors and current college students who are planning on pursuing a degree in nursing.  The Scholarship is open to any nursing student who is a resident of a community served by Penwell-Gabel funeral home.

Application: go to www.PenwellGabel.com and click on "About Us" and then "Scholarship" or see a high school counselor for an application.

Deadline: January 31.

 

***Olathe Medical Center

Criteria:  Spring Hill student planning to pursue a career in health care.  Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and provide an official transcript with the application.  The applicant must have taken either the ACT or SAT and provide proof of the test scores.  The applicant must pursue a major in the medical field or in health care administration.  See Ms. Graves for an application.

Amount of Award:  amount may vary; past amount has been $1000

Deadline: Applications are due to Ms. Graves by February 14.  Organization’s application is used.

 

Kansas City K-State Alumni Club Scholarship

Criteria:  several $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen from the KC Metro area; minimum 3.0 GPA; application includes three letters of recommendation, essay, and academic information and verification

Deadline:  December 1  * Application is available through the counseling office or at www.k-state.com/Clubs/KansasCityAreaAlumniClub click on the link for "K-State Wabash Cannon Ball Scholarships."  This application does not replace the general K-State scholarship application, but is an excellent opportunity for students to earn a $2,500 scholarship.  Due date is December.

 

**Kansas State Delta Chi Educational Foundation Scholarship

Criteria:  male student planning to attend K-State; 3.0 GPA; scholarship, leadership, involvement, and service.

Deadline:  must be postmarked by March 1; applications available through the counseling department.

 

***Sunflower Ruritan Club- Ramona McVey Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:  Brief statement addressing questions on scholarship indicating GPA, interests, subjects taken, etc.  Typically given to a student planning to attend a community college or a technical college. 

Amount of Award:   $600 scholarships awarded; number of scholarships given varies by year

Deadline:  March 1 *organization’s application is used (available in counseling office).

 

**Kansas State Sigma Phi Epsilon Balanced Man Scholarship

Criteria:  incoming male attending K-State in the fall who demonstrates excellence in all aspects of scholastics and extracurricular activities; application includes an essay defining what a balanced man is to the applicant

Deadline:  see the counseling department for an application; due date is in April.

 

**Kansas County Clerks and Election Officials Scholarship

Criteria:  Scholarships are limited to students who intend to major in Political Science, Journalism, or Communications; have a 3.0 minimum GPA

Deadline:  April 1, 2008 *organization’s application is used

 

***Spring Hill Education Foundation

Criteria:   If entering the workforce, must have a documented career plan;  if entering college or technical school, must have been accepted to post-secondary education.  Awarded on basis of experiences/achievements, attendance, community and school involvement, and career goals.

Amount of Award:  Varies each year.  Has been as much as $1500.

***ECKAN-  East Central Economic Opportunity Corporation’s annual competition 

Criteria:  Provided to a student who resides within Miami county. This scholarship is for low-income families who live within Anderson, Coffey, Douglas, Franklin, Lyon, Miami, or Osage counties.

Amount of Award:  $500 scholarship.  

Deadline:  Applications are due in April.

Application:  See counselor to see if you fall within the income guidelines and to obtain an application. 

 

***Spring Hill Lion’s Club

Eligibility:  2.5 GPA – Financial need will be considered, as well as community service

Amount of Award:  Two $500 scholarships

Deadline:  April 15 return to counselor and member of Lion’s Club will pick up.

 

***Rob Duke Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:  Must have letter of acceptance to Kansas State University.  Letter and application will document academics, activities, community service, and future goals.

Amount of Award:  $1000

Deadline:  April 16 *Use the Spring Hill High School Application.

 

***EKAEOP  Scholarship (Spring Hill Secretaries)  

Criteria:  Based on scholarship, activities, and financial need.

Amount of Award:  TBA for local winner.

Deadline:  May 1  *organization’s application is used.

Eligibility:  Recipient is chosen from applications according to characteristics of leadership and academic achievement.

Amount of Award:  $350

***Joy Morrison Greene Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility:  Completed application with statement about long and short term goals.  Preference will be given to student planning to major in journalism.

Amount of Award:  $500

***Mike Howell Memorial Scholarship

Eligibility:  Based on athletic involvement, GPA, and financial need.

Eligibility:  Attend high school in Olathe, Gardner, or Spring Hill and have at least a 2.5 GPA.  Good for either college or vo-tech/trade school.

Eligibility:  Graduating Senior from Spring Hill H. S.

Eligibility:  Parents must be members of Booster Club; winners are drawn randomly.  Letters will be sent to eligible seniors the end of March/early April.

General Scholarships

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits by offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student.  All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.  Deadline: June 27.  Amount of award is $500.  The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution.  Visit www.bigsunathletics.com to learn how to apply.

Horatio Alger Scholarship

Criteria:  High school seniors who have shown integrity, determination, and courage.  This scholarship rewards the students who have the character to succeed in life.  This scholarship helps students overcome the financial barriers of pursuing higher education.  Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA and require financial assistance to go to college.  Visit www.horatioalger.org/scholarships for more information.   Applications may be obtained from Ms. Graves.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards

Criteria:  Available for students who have shown outstanding volunteer service to their communities.  This program is available to students in grades 9-12.  To learn more about the program and to fill out an application, go to www.prudential.com/spirit or visit the guidance department.  

Deadline: Applications are due by October 31

 

The Elberta Harris Scholarship Fund (Emporia State University)

Criteria: Be a high school senior with at least a 3.0 GPA and plan to attend Emporia State to pursue a degree in elementary or secondary education; have a strong record of community service.

Application: Available from Ms. Graves in the counseling office; must submit the application with essay and two letters of recommendation by November 15 to address on application.

 

AXA Achievement Scholarships

Criteria: These scholarships are given to ambitious and driven students every year.  These are students that are determined to set and reach goals and take the initiative to begin special community projects in order to help others.  to learn more about the AXA Achievement program and scholarships, visit www.axa-achievement.com.

Sam Walton Community Scholarship

Criteria: At least a 2.5 GPA, have taken the ACT.

Amount of Award: $1000 locally, with chance to win $4000 at state level, and state winner going on to national level for another $25,000.

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program

Criteria: Seniors who scored a 32 or above on ACT; GPA of 3.85

Amount of Award: $1500 (every year for four years)

Deadline: February 5

 

Educational Tours Global Citizens Award (an annual essay competition for college-bound high school seniors)

Criteria: nominees are asked to reflect upon and describe in a brief essay how a person in their community inspired them to live life as global citizens.  A single student will be selected to send his or her essay directly to EF, along with a completed application form.

Kansas Junior Golf Scholarship

Criteria:  The Kansas Golf Foundation will award five scholarships to high school graduates who have participated in golf activities. Scholarships are awarded based on academics, leadership, written essay and financial need. 

Amount of Award:  The scholarship is $1250 per school year and is renewable for up to four years.

Trails West Barbershop Harmony Chorale

Criteria:  Music Scholarship Available to High School Seniors.  Students must be seniors and have had involvement in some form of high school music; priority will be given to students pursuing music at the college level.  

Amount of Award: $500

Deadline: Applications due April 21

Cloud County Community College (Concordia, KS)

Criteria: Experience on dance team or as a cheer or yell leader in high school. Must attend NCA or UCA Cheer Camp.

Amount of Award: Tuition and Books for cheerleaders; $1000 for dance team

E-Keha- Bill Spaniol Memorial Scholarship:

Golden Key International Honor Society

Criteria: The applicant must have participated in a vocal , dance, drama, or instrumental performance.

Amount of Award: $1000

Monsanto Commitment to Agriculture Program

Criteria: The applicant's family must be actively engaged in the production of agriculture. The applicant must have an average or above academic record, have a minimum of 18 on ACT, and pursue a field related to agriculture. This scholarship is not based on financial need.

Amount of Award: $1500 (100 awards are given)

NASA

Criteria: $2000-$5000 to seniors who exhibit scholastic excellence and outstanding character. GPA of at least 3.0.

Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year

Criteria:  Academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service. 

Amount of Award:  $7500

Scouting Scholarship

Criteria: To the Eagle Scout who is selected “The American Legion Scout of the Year”.   Three  runner-up scholarships, at $2000 each;  $500 scholarship to the Kansas Scout of the Year.

Amount of Awards:  $8000 



Uncf.org

Criteria: This scholarship is restricted to African-American applicants who major in computer science or information systems. The applicant must have 3.5 GPA.

Amount of Award: Up to $10,000 available.

University and School Specific Scholarships

K-State Scholarship!  The K-State Wabash CannonBall Scholarship is available for Kansas City-area students.  Applications must be postmarked by Monday, December 1.  Twenty $2,500 scholarships will be awarded in the Kansas City area.  Winners will be announced in February.  Recipients will have the opportunity to apply for renewal of this scholarship again for the 2010-2011 academic year.  Applications can be completed and submitted online at: www.K-State.com/clubs/KansasCityAreaAlumniClub/ or a hard copy application can be picked up at the high school counseling office.  Criteria includes a minimum GPA of 3.25 and student must be admitted to Kansas State University and have completed a general scholarship application.

K-State’s Loren Mall Leadership Scholarships

Criteria:  Offered to incoming freshmen males at Kansas State. Considerations will be based on leadership and academic excellence: grades, ACT/SAT scores, school and community activities, and leadership roles. There is no obligation to join Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.

Amount of Award: $500

JCCC

Deadline:  *Seniors planning to attend JCCC next fall need to have their application for admission and scholarship application to JCCC by April 1.

 

Metcalf Bank is offering their “Keeping Options Open Scholarship”

Criteria: The scholarship is available for senior students who have participated in either the College Now or QuickStep program and plan to enroll in at least 12 hours at JCCC.

Barton County Community College

Criteria: The applicant must have an interest in being a student athletic trainer (sports medicine) while continuing education in college, carry a minimum of 12 semester hours, and have an overall GPA of 2.0.

Criteria:  Enrollment in an accredited Kansas school which awards a diploma for Licensed Practical Nursing; qualify for financial need.



Highland Community College

Criteria: This is available to two to three students with either knowledge of video camera, computer skills (video practice sessions and games); or journalism (writing articles); or secretarial skills (correspondence).

K-State’s True Gentlemen Scholarship

Criteria:  Available to incoming male freshmen planning to attend K-State.  **There are three or four K-State scholarships for in-coming male freshmen. Most of these scholarships are sponsored by a fraternity but do NOT require the recipient to join the fraternity.

Loans

Kansas Masonic Foundation Student Loan Program

Low interest loans (5%) are available with repayment starting one year after completion of school.  

Student Requirements: The is student is required to maintain a 2.0 GPA and have 12 credit hours while attending college.
