Art
and the New School Year
6th Grade: Actually having an art
class is new to our 6th graders! We will highlight several
areas of the visual arts beginning with the elements and principles
of design. Our projects in 2 and 3-dimensional media strengthen
the students understanding and abilities in these areas.
7th Grade: We will be working in the
media of painting, drawing, block printing and weaving.
Students will also create slab constructed clay pieces. Art
history is a vital part of any art experience so get ready to meet a
few well known artists along the way!
8th Grade: The eighth grade program
continues to build on the knowledge gained over the past two years
in the art room. Students should be more comfortable working
with the elements and principles of design as they work in a variety
of media. Still life painting, drawing, clay coil pots and
abstract design will be introduced.
Any artwork done outside of class has
potential to be worth extra credit points to students! The
work must be current (completed no later than May 2002) and able to
fit through the art room door! I strongly encourage students
to share their talents. Extra credit pieces will be accepted
on Fridays!
7th & 8th Elective Art: Elective
students will work in a variety of media to broaden their
understanding of how enormously exciting and challenging the visual
arts are! Students work on the potter's wheel, create mask,
study optical and visual illusions as well as working in abstract
art, design technique and composition options. A "Friday
Drawing Book" is required every other Friday. Topics and
requirements vary from assignment to assignment! |
